Because nobody has submitted a patch to do that yet. :)
On the point of the OP, I recently checked in a change that makes
processing large documents over twice as fast; at least on my desktop
Linux box. I suspect on lesser machines the performance improvement is
noticeable with smaller documents. This may appear to make it appear to
"flicker" more. If that is the case, we should readjust the frequency
of periodic reflow to account for the recent changes.
